Dual Reservoir Master Cylinder Retrofit

Post Dual Reservoir Master Cylinder Retrofit
Since I live in a mountainous area, I have always been concerned with my '58 Citation (like all cars of this era) having a single reservoir master cylinder. I know that other classic cars have been successfully updated with dual reservoir systems. Has anyone done this update on an edsel? If so, what hardware was used? I recently saw an ad on e-bay for a new system which claims to retrofit Fords and Edsels. It included the booster and master cylinder for $179. Obviously there would need to be some brake line modifications but otherwise claimed to be a direct retrofit. Also, it would not be original appearing, but presumably the car could be restored to the original configuation. Has anybody tried this system on their Edsel?

Hi Glenn,

I can understang you very well. I installed a dual reservoir master cylinder in my 58 Citation 15 years ago. But I couldn't get a "made for Edsel" part in Germany. So I took a used one from the junk yard of an Volvo, which had be built in mid 70s. It was not easy to install this master cylinder, I had to make new holes in the wall to the passenger room, some sheet parts a.o. But it works up to now very fine. To the front reservoir I put the front brakes, to the rear reservoir the rear brakes. By the way I used new brake lines, made of CuNiFe10. A fine material, easy to work with.

Oh, how can I put a photo into this field ? I could make a photo of the master cylinder.

Greetings from Germany

Thomas

Hi!

I wounder the same, i´m thinking of buying the same kit for my car.
Someone had put a big booster from a mustang or something in my car. Looks ugly, and it´s in no good shape.

And i´m putting a bigger engine in my car so i need a smaller booster.

regards from sweden

Jonas

Hey guys I've used that $179 eBay direct fit on my 58 citation due to not being able to find an OE unit. Ill get some pics!

It did install fine, but I did have to shorten the adjustable brake rod about 1 1/2" to make it work right. It does look much too modern but seems to stop well. I still need to do some adjusting on the rod as my fronts seem to be dragging a tad..... Otherwise I can't complain!
